Since 2004, the Sweetgrass Festival has worked to showcase the unique history, culture, and traditions of the Gullah Geechee community. During the event, you'll get to immerse yourself in the Gullah Geechee world through informative and engaging educational sessions. Learn about the culture, its origins, and the skilled artisans who continue to keep this tradition alive.
At the heart of the festival is the exquisite art of sweetgrass basket weaving, a craft that originated in Mount Pleasant and that remains important in the community.
